Summary

The course aims at presenting the basic terminology, sociological theoretical perspectives, and research in order to understand the historical development and diversity of families, their changing forms and complexity in the contemporary world; to discuss developmental stages of families and the social forces that shape family forms. After completion of the course students will be able to understand the historical and theoretical development of the sociology of families; to assess family development dynamics, its complexity and empirical material about family life; to interpret the basic terminology and theoretical perspectives about families, and be able to apply them in practice; to assess contemporary family tendencies in a global world and future trends.
